China Announces Sanctions on Six US Companies and Organizations in Retaliation for Xinjiang Import Ban

China's Ministry of Commerce announced on the 5th that it is imposing sanctions on six US companies and organizations. The move is a retaliatory measure against the Trump administration's July 31 ban on imports from 43 China-based companies, citing forced labor in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The sanctions took effect immediately under the Anti-Foreign Sanctions Law. The targets are private companies and organizations that supported enforcement of the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act, including a firm that identified product origins through DNA analysis, a company that tracked international supply chains using AI, and a New York-based human rights NGO. They are now prohibited from conducting transactions with Chinese entities and individuals.
