China has issued a statement condemning India after the New Delhi government officially named 27 locations in Arunachal Pradesh, which China calls Zangnan and claims as its own territory. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said the move is illegal and invalid, and reiterated that Zangnan belongs to China. The named sites include mountain passes, lakes, and war memorials, such as the Dzo La, Riza La, Pukur La, and Thag La passes, as well as Sambho Sarovar lake and the Sher-e-Thapa Memorial. The move comes amid efforts to revive relations between the two countries following border clashes in June 2020 and a meeting between the two leaders last year.
