Barclays PLCChina's National Bureau of Statistics reported that retail sales in July expanded only 0.6% year on year, below the 1.5% analysts had expected and slowing from 1% in June. Urban fixed-asset investment in the first seven months contracted 6.7%, worse than forecast, while industrial output grew 4.5%, below the 4.8% expected. The urban unemployment rate rose to 5.2% from 5% the previous month. The data, released later than usual, reinforced concerns about the imbalance between demand and supply in China's economy.
