The S&P 500 fell 1.44% and the Nasdaq 100 tumbled 3.29% on Tuesday as a global selloff in semiconductor stocks hammered major indexes. The iShares Semiconductor ETF closed down more than 8%, with Micron Technology losing over 13% and Sandisk dropping more than 12% to lead decliners. The rout began in Asia, where South Korea's Kospi index sank more than 10% and SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics each fell over 12%, triggering forced liquidations among retail margin traders. A surprise expansion in the June S&P manufacturing PMI to a four-year high of 55.7 helped indexes pare some losses, while International Business Machines rose over 5% after a JPMorgan upgrade, limiting the Dow's decline to just 0.09%.
