Circle Internet Group, Inc.Circle raised $222 million in an Arc token presale at a $3 billion valuation.

Circle opened the public mainnet of Arc, its Layer 1 payments network, on Wednesday with 11 founding validators drawn from traditional finance, including BlackRock, Visa, Mastercard, Galaxy, SBI Group, and Standard Chartered. The company raised $222 million in an Arc token presale at a $3 billion valuation, and gas on the chain is paid in USDC rather than a volatile native token, with Circle designing Arc around payments, foreign exchange, and tokenized securities. Speculators have spent recent weeks mapping Arc launchpads and pre-mainnet tokens, betting the chain's opening week will resemble the meme coin rush that overtook Robinhood Chain, the Arbitrum-based Layer 2 launched on July 1 around real-world assets. Within a week of that launch, meme coins set the pace, with decentralized exchange volume hitting a record $563.9 million on July 8 and traders creating 16,639 tokens in a single day, before the chain cleared $1.06 billion in daily DEX volume on August 29 and peaked at a new all-time high of $3.7 billion earlier this month. USDC already carries a $74.2 billion market cap, and the first week of trading should show whether bankers or degens get there faster.
