Citi is projecting a combined $801 billion in capital expenditure across Alphabet, Meta Platforms, and Amazon for 2027, warning that the scale of AI infrastructure spending will push all three hyperscalers into negative free cash flow territory in both 2027 and 2028. The brokerage raised its 2027 capex estimates ahead of the second-quarter 2026 earnings season, lifting Alphabet by approximately 21% to $308 billion, Meta by roughly 22% to $205 billion, and Amazon by about 12% to $288 billion. Meta's elevated spending is tied to a target of approximately 14 gigawatts of compute capacity, while Citi is for the first time incorporating Tensor Processing Unit sales into its Google Cloud Platform revenue model, with about $62 billion of TPU revenue baked into the 2027 estimate. The bank also sees near-term upside from improving advertising and e-commerce conditions, expecting better-than-expected revenue and profitability trends for the second quarter and potentially third-quarter guidance.
