SK Hynix IncCXMT's surge and profitability signal increased competition in DRAM, pressuring SK Hynix's market position.
Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT saw its shares surge about 470% on their Shanghai trading debut Monday, lifting its market value to roughly 3.3 trillion yuan and making it the most valuable company listed in China. The Hefei-based company raised 57.92 billion yuan, or about $8.6 billion, in Asia's largest initial public offering this year, pricing shares at 8.66 yuan before they opened at 49.50 yuan. Individual investors submitted 9.4 million orders worth 7.07 trillion yuan, oversubscribing the retail tranche 212 times. CXMT now displaces Industrial and Commercial Bank of China from the top spot, driven by surging memory demand for artificial intelligence that helped it swing to a first-quarter operating profit of 35.43 billion yuan from a 2.83 billion yuan loss a year earlier. The company ranks as the world's fourth-largest DRAM producer with a 7.67% global market share in 2025, while Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron together controlled about 90% in the first quarter of 2026.
