DES Permanent Secretary explains TH-AI Passport registrations surpass 1.16 million, insists no data leak

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has provided an update on the TH-AI Passport project after the system opened just two days ago and already recorded more than 1.16 million registrations. Permanent Secretary Pachara Anantasilp said the delay was caused by contract revisions to protect the state's interests, and the Office of the National Digital Economy and Society Commission signed the contract on 18 August, with the full contract published on its website. The key change is a shift in the payment model to a pay-per-active-user system, under which the state pays only when users actually send commands to use the premium model. People who start using the service from 31 August will immediately receive Pro Tier access with a quota of 100 tokens, while those who start after the first three months must complete training before receiving the entitlement. On personal data security, Pachara stressed that identity verification ends within the Thang Rath and ThaID applications only, no personal data is sent for processing outside the country, and the contracting party is prohibited from using the database for further development abroad. Only prompt content is sent abroad for processing, and it will be stored for study after the project ends without real-time monitoring.
