The dollar index rose 0.12% after stronger-than-expected US economic data on May retail sales and pending home sales, alongside short covering ahead of the Federal Reserve's policy decision. US May retail sales increased 0.9% month-over-month, exceeding the 0.6% forecast, while sales excluding autos rose 0.8%, also above expectations. Pending home sales surged 3.8% in May, the largest gain in 20 months and well above the 0.9% estimate. Markets are pricing only a 5% chance of a quarter-point rate hike at the conclusion of the two-day FOMC meeting, the first under new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh.
