The US dollar weakened against major currencies in New York trading after the US released weak economic data. The dollar index fell 1.01 percent to 99.868. The dollar weakened against the yen to 158.93 yen, the Swiss franc to 0.8040 franc, and the Canadian dollar to 1.3996 Canadian dollars. Meanwhile, the euro strengthened to 1.1535 dollars and the pound strengthened to 1.3476 dollars. The US Commerce Department reported that second-quarter GDP grew 1.5 percent, below analyst expectations of 1.8 percent. The headline PCE index for June rose 3.7 percent year-on-year, slowing from 4.1 percent in May. The core PCE index rose 3.3 percent, down from 3.4 percent the previous month. Investors reduced expectations for a Fed rate hike at the September meeting. The CME Group FedWatch Tool indicated that investors now see a 61 percent probability, down from 77 percent previously.
