Summary · why it matters

DP World has handled the largest single maritime delivery of new energy vehicles to Chile, discharging 1,918 fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles at its multipurpose terminal in San Antonio. The arrival also marked the first call by a BYD car carrier at a Chilean port, with the BYD Changzhou visiting the country as part of its inaugural route to South America. According to BYD, the shipment represents the largest number of new energy vehicles ever delivered to Chile aboard a single vessel. The milestone comes as Chile's electric vehicle market continues to expand rapidly, with sales up 165.4% year over year in the first half of 2026 according to the Chilean Automotive Association, and plug-in vehicles reaching 6.5% of the country's new light- and medium-duty vehicle market. The operation reinforces DP World in San Antonio's position as Chile's leading gateway for automotive cargo, with more than 95% of the country's vehicle imports moving through the terminal. The shipment follows another automotive milestone at the terminal earlier this year, when the M/V Morning Lily discharged 6,338 vehicles in a single vessel operation, the largest overall vehicle discharge in Chilean history.

TKT Says EV Import Tariffs Will Boost Domestic Parts, EV Portfolio Still Only 1% of Revenue

Worapong Phonmuangla, Managing Director of T. Krungthai Industries Public Company Limited, or TKT, told the Stock Vision news team that the government's measure to raise import tariffs on electric vehicles will create an opportunity for domestic plastic parts and mold manufacturers, as carmakers may increase the share of parts they purchase and outsource from local operators. Currently, TKT derives about 1% of its total revenue from plastic parts for electric vehicles, taking on work as a Tier 2 supplier through Tier 1 parts makers that are partners of Chinese EV brands, and it delivers parts to roughly one or two Chinese EV makers. Although the Chinese-brand EV market has potential thanks to the establishment of production bases in Thailand, it still faces intense price competition, while actual EV registrations in the country stand at only about 40,000 to 50,000 units, below the production targets set by carmakers. The company expects total revenue this year to be close to last year's level, in line with the target set at the start of the year, amid a slowdown in the domestic automotive industry. The Federation of Thai Industries has cut its 2026 car production forecast from 1.5 million units to about 1.45 million units, with production for export at about 1 million units, and domestic car sales lowered from an original target of 500,000 units to about 400,000 to 450,000 units. TKT is therefore focused on cost management and improving production efficiency, including negotiating selling price adjustments based on cost structure, or Cost Plus, finding new suppliers and alternative raw materials, controlling Standard Cost, investing in tools to improve machine efficiency and reduce waste, and training to develop employee skills, in order to maintain profitability.

XPeng Fair Value Cut to US$19.06 as Analysts Split on Growth and Execution

Simply Wall St lowered its fair value estimate for XPeng to US$19.06 from US$22.36, as updated Street targets for the Chinese automaker now range roughly between US$12 and US$24. JPMorgan, Citi and BofA all kept positive ratings while trimming their price targets into the US$18 to US$24 range, with JPMorgan cutting from US$27 to US$24 and UBS moving from US$18 to US$12. UBS highlighted XPeng as an emerging Chinese automaker in humanoid robotics, pointing to a robotics capital raise of over US$900m at a valuation above US$6.3b as longer term optionality beyond the core auto business, while Barclays pointed to the L03 model as important for second half 2026 results and for XPeng reaching 10,000 overseas deliveries by Q4. On the bearish side, UBS and Barclays flagged pressure on the core auto business from intense competition, supply chain issues, short product cycles and lower than expected Q3 guidance, and BofA reduced its 2026 to 2028 volume assumptions by mid single digit percentages. The revised model also adjusted CN¥ revenue growth to 19.66% from 21.95%, net profit margin to 2.46% from 3.44%, future P/E to 56.08x from 44.61x, and the discount rate to 12.88% from 12.04%.

GAC Cambodia KD Plant Begins Production with 10,000-Unit Annual Capacity

GAC's knocked-down vehicle assembly plant in Kampong Chhnang Province, Cambodia, officially entered production on September 17, marking the automaker's shift from complete vehicle exports to local manufacturing in the country. Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin attended the inauguration ceremony, alongside Jiang Xiuyun, Deputy General Manager of GAC Group, and Wang Shunsheng, Deputy General Manager of GAC International and President of the Southeast Asia Regional Center, with leadership of TH Group, GAC's strategic partner in Cambodia, also present for the launch of the THAM assembly plant for GAC vehicles. Under the local assembly project, fully launched in 2024, TH Group is responsible for plant investment, construction and vehicle assembly, while GAC supplies complete knocked-down kits, technical standards and full-chain technical support, with a designed annual capacity of around 10,000 units. Hun Manet said the plant's commencement is a significant achievement of the Royal Government of Cambodia's industrial transformation, helping the country upgrade from labor-intensive industries to capital-, advanced-technology- and high-skill-driven sectors. GAC said its TRUMPCHI brand has grown explosively in Cambodia since 2024, with an average annual compound growth rate of over 300% over the past three years, and ranked first among Chinese automotive brands in Cambodia in 2025.
