Eli Lilly and CompanyEli Lilly acquires BPL-003, a promising phase 2 drug for treatment-resistant depression, strengthening its neuroscience pipeline.
Eli Lilly announced it will acquire clinical-stage biotech AtaiBeckley for about $2.8 billion in cash, excluding potential milestone payments. The deal, announced on July 16, gives Eli Lilly access to BPL-003, an investigational drug for treatment-resistant depression that showed strong phase 2 results. The acquisition strengthens Eli Lilly's neuroscience portfolio, which already includes Alzheimer's drug Kisunla and candidates from its recent $6.3 billion purchase of Centessa Pharmaceuticals. The move is part of a broader acquisition spree to diversify beyond its dominant GLP-1 weight-loss franchise, with recent deals also expanding into pain management, oncology, immunology, and infectious diseases.
