Elliott Investment Management has taken a multibillion-dollar activist position in Synopsys, Inc., betting that the company's shares will close their discount to peer Cadence Design Systems. In its second-quarter 2026 investor letter, 13D Activist Fund highlighted the campaign, noting that Synopsys, which provides electronic design automation software and semiconductor IP, has underperformed Cadence by 14.49, 25.98, and 43.56 percentage points over the past one-, three-, and five-year periods, respectively. As a result, Synopsys trades at a discounted valuation of 28.1 times next-twelve-month price-to-earnings, versus 35.5 times for Cadence. Synopsys, which acquired Ansys in July 2025 for approximately $35 billion, closed at $410.00 per share on August 26, 2026, with a market capitalization of $78.51 billion. The fund's I Shares returned 32.61% in Q2 2026, compared with 21.49% for the Russell 2000 Index.
