Tesla IncMusk exercises options, increasing voting power to ~20%, signaling confidence and alignment with shareholders

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has exercised stock options from his 2018 CEO Compensation Award, bringing his voting power in the electric vehicle maker to approximately 19.9%. A Form 4 filing with the SEC on June 16 shows Musk acquired over 303.96 million shares at $23.34 per share, with Tesla withholding roughly 17.53 million shares valued at $404.66 each to cover the transaction, resulting in a net gain of more than 286.4 million shares. The filing indicates Musk now holds over 727.7 million shares, including those from a separate 2025 CEO award, though a 13G filing lists 699.58 million shares representing the 19.9% voting stake. The options exercise did not involve any open-market sales, and the newly acquired shares will vest in 2028.
