Elon Musk’s X has settled its multiyear legal battle with the World Federation of Advertisers, the two organizations said on Wednesday. The settlement ends X’s lawsuit filed in 2024 accusing the WFA of orchestrating a systematic illegal boycott after advertising revenue declined following Musk’s $44 billion takeover in 2022. A federal court dismissed the case in March, and X had appealed in April. The joint statement says the WFA will not restart its Global Alliance for Responsible Media initiative, which X had blamed for advertiser pullback over brand safety concerns.
