Alibaba Group Holding LtdEU fined AliExpress €550 million for DSA violations regarding counterfeit and illegal goods.

The European Commission has fined AliExpress €550 million for failing to meet Digital Services Act risk-assessment duties related to counterfeit, unsafe, and illegal goods. The Commission found the Chinese online marketplace did not sufficiently assess staffing levels for reviewing potentially illegal listings and overstated the effectiveness of its detection and removal systems. It also determined that AliExpress did not adequately evaluate how its recommendation and advertising tools contributed to the spread of illegal items, and that large volumes of such products remained available for weeks after being reported. The infringement period lasted until at least June 2025, and AliExpress has until 20 October 2026 to submit a remediation plan.
