The European Union has published guidance on the regulation prohibiting the sale or export of goods made with forced labour, in preparation for full enforcement on 14 December 2027. Mrs Arada Fuangtong, Director-General of the Department of Foreign Trade, said the EU is Thailand's fourth-largest trading partner, with total trade value of 1.7 trillion baht. Thailand exports about 1 trillion baht to the EU and imports 700 billion baht, resulting in a trade surplus of 300 billion baht. The guidance covers the responsibilities of government agencies, businesses, and civil society, and requires businesses to have due diligence processes and traceability systems to verify that goods are free of forced labour throughout the supply chain. The Department of Foreign Trade therefore advises Thai exporters to accelerate the development of traceability systems, especially in the electrical and electronics sector, which accounts for a high share of exports to the EU.
