EuroCommerce, representing EU retailers and wholesalers, is calling for a minimum 12-month grace period once the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation starts applying from 12 August. The trade body argues key technical details remain unclear just weeks before implementation, including thresholds for PFAS in packaging. It wants the grace period to focus on guidance and support rather than enforcement, warning that without clarity and flexibility there could be serious disruption across Europe's supply chains. The PPWR entered into force in February 2024 but its measures phase in through 2030, with different compliance dates for recyclability requirements and reuse targets.
