The European Union's statistics office reported on the 7th that the final reading of eurozone real GDP for the second quarter of 2026 was up 0.6% quarter-on-quarter on a seasonally adjusted basis, revised upward from the previous estimate of 0.4% growth and beating market expectations of 0.4%. For the EU as a whole, growth was also revised up to 0.7% from 0.5%. According to the statistics office, household consumption underpinned growth, and export growth boosted the overall figure, while inventories made a negative contribution. Among major countries, Germany was revised up to 0.3% growth (from 0.2%), Spain grew 0.7%, Italy was unchanged at 0.2%, and France was revised down to flat (from 0.2%). Ireland saw a significant upward revision to 10.2% growth (from 3.9%).
