Ford Motor Company is recalling 148,663 U.S. vehicles, covering 2024 through 2026 Mustangs, because ground connections in the engine compartment wiring harness can fracture, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said on September 1. The defect can cause a loss of drive power or disable headlights, windshield washers, air conditioning, or the engine cooling fan, raising crash and visibility risks. Dealers will replace the affected ground terminals free of charge, but the complete remedy is not expected until around March 2027, with interim notification letters going out between August 31 and September 4. Ford says it is not aware of any crashes or injuries linked to the defect. This recall follows a June recall of 91,198 vehicles over daytime running lamps, and Ford issued two additional recalls the same week: more than 10,000 vehicles over potentially defective engine piston domes, and 23 vehicles over improperly tightened joints.
