Song Zhiyuan, former deputy party secretary and director of China Dongfang Electric Group, is under investigation for suspected serious disciplinary and legal violations. He is currently undergoing disciplinary review and supervisory investigation by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Supervisory Commission. Song Zhiyuan stepped down as director of Dongfang Electric in March 2025 upon reaching the statutory retirement age, and was placed under investigation just over a year after retiring. He previously served as director and deputy party secretary of China Grain Reserves Group, among other roles, and was director and deputy party secretary of Dongfang Electric Group from October 2021 to December 2024. Dongfang Electric Group is a key state-owned backbone enterprise under central management, and controls the A-share listed company Dongfang Electric.
