The Federation of Thai Industries is preparing to coordinate with the Ministry of Commerce to evaluate the impact of the United States' tariff measures under Section 301, which have been raised to 12.5 percent from the normal rate, effective from 24 July 2026, replacing the temporary 10 percent measure that ends on the same day. Ms. Pimjai Leeissaranukul, Chairperson of the Federation of Thai Industries, disclosed that the United States is Thailand's top export market. From January to May 2026, Thailand's exports to the United States were valued at approximately 38.037 billion US dollars, an increase of 40.31 percent from the same period last year, accounting for about 23.5 percent of Thailand's total export value. The tariff change may affect competitiveness, especially for product groups that rely heavily on the US market, such as food and processed food, auto parts, gems and jewellery, furniture, textiles, and garments. The Federation of Thai Industries will expedite discussions with the Ministry of Commerce and relevant agencies to assess the impact on a product-code basis, as the measure includes some exemptions, and will prepare to propose assistance measures for entrepreneurs. It also expressed confidence that the negotiations on the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade between Thailand and the United States, under the leadership of Ms. Supphajee Suthamphan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, will lead to a balanced conclusion that is mutually beneficial for both sides.
