Meta Platforms Inc.Meta announces CAD $13 billion investment in Alberta data centre, a major capital expenditure.

Global Power Solutions Corp. has registered to attend the Data Centre West 2026 conference in Calgary this September, while applauding Meta Platforms’ historic announcement of a more than CAD $13 billion investment in a new AI-optimized data centre in Sturgeon County, Alberta. The conference is one of Western Canada’s leading digital infrastructure events, and Global Power’s attendance aims to support its engagement with the sector and evaluate opportunities for decentralized, scalable power solutions. Meta’s 1GW facility will be its first data centre in Canada and its 33rd globally, with the company planning to fully fund new generation and grid infrastructure and use a water-efficient closed-loop liquid-cooled system. Global Power CEO Pete Medved called the announcement a landmark moment that signals Alberta’s emergence as a globally competitive jurisdiction for AI infrastructure and the power systems required to support it. The company also disclosed it has retained Investor Insights Systems Inc. for marketing services at a cost of $250,000 USD for an initial three-month term.
