Gold prices fell further on Friday as Brent crude surged above $100 a barrel, renewing inflation worries and bolstering expectations for higher interest rates ahead of next week's Federal Reserve meeting. Spot gold eased 0.6% to $4,025.38 per ounce, down more than $130 from a two-week high hit on Wednesday, though it was on track for a small weekly gain of 0.4%. Brent crude jumped 7% on Thursday, topping $100 for the first time since May, after U.S. President Donald Trump promised major military punishment for Iran and its Houthi allies following strikes on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea. The Fed is widely expected to hold rates steady next week, while the European Central Bank kept rates unchanged on Thursday but left the door open for a September increase. Among other precious metals, spot silver fell 0.5% to $57.34 per ounce, platinum dropped 1.3% to $1,587.80, and palladium slipped 2.1% to $1,237.50.
