Gold prices surged past the $4,100 per ounce level, hitting a two-week high, supported by technical buying and safe-haven demand amid diplomatic efforts to ease Middle East tensions. As of 10:05 p.m. Thai time, spot gold rose $83.39, or 2.05%, to $4,155.44 per ounce, while COMEX gold futures for August delivery gained $74.10, or 1.80%, to $4,150.50 per ounce. A weaker dollar also added to gold's appeal for holders of other currencies. Ricardo Evangelista, senior analyst at ActivTrades, noted that safe-haven buying and hopes for US-Iran talks overshadowed inflation concerns from oil prices, and he views the $4,000 per ounce level as a strong technical support.
