Goldman Sachs Group has surged to the top spot among foreign financial institutions in Taiwan's stock trading market by turnover. Capturing a sharp rise in demand from quant funds seeking AI-related exposure, its trading value for the January–June period expanded 237% year-on-year to 12.5 trillion Taiwan dollars, overtaking JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley. It started the year in tenth place, but rapid expansion of high-frequency trading and coverage for quant clients drove market share gains, lifting it to fourth place overall and closing in on Taiwan's major local brokerages. The firm has strengthened its execution systems through trading infrastructure investments and increased engineering headcount, and is also internalizing more client-to-client trades, passing some of the execution cost savings back to clients. Taiwan's market has surged 58% this year on the AI boom, with TSMC at its core, rising to become the world's fifth-largest market. Foreign investor ownership has reached about 48%, and rising volatility is also providing a tailwind for broker revenues.
