Goldman Sachs Chief Asia-Pacific Equity Strategist Tim Moe raised the firm's Kospi target to 12,000, implying roughly 90% upside, citing strong conviction in an earnings recovery driven by the AI capex cycle. The call comes as Korean leveraged ETF assets under management collapsed from a June peak of roughly $53 billion to a low of about $14 billion before recovering to about $24 billion, while 10-day volatility neared 100%. Moe noted the Kospi trades at 5.1 times forward earnings, about two standard deviations below historical norms, and projects 32% earnings growth this year and 35% next year. Semiconductors make up over 50% of the Kospi, with SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics as key drivers, and the iShares MSCI South Korea ETF and Franklin FTSE South Korea ETF offer US-listed exposure, with the former more concentrated in those chip names.
