NVIDIA CorporationGoldman Sachs notes funds underweight Nvidia, creating a setup where earnings strength could force buying or slowdown validates caution.
Goldman Sachs data shows Nvidia remains the biggest AI stock that U.S. large-cap mutual funds are reluctant to fully own, with funds underweight Nvidia by roughly 100 basis points. The positioning creates a potentially important setup, as continued earnings strength could force institutional managers to chase the stock, while any AI slowdown would validate their caution. Among major AI-related stocks tracked, Advanced Micro Devices was underweight by roughly 60 basis points, Alphabet by about 70, and Microsoft by about 50, while Meta Platforms was underweight by roughly 30 basis points. The notable exception was Micron Technology, where large-cap mutual funds were overweight by approximately 40 basis points, and Seagate Technology was overweight at roughly 15 basis points. Nvidia is due to report fiscal second-quarter earnings on Aug. 26, with investors looking for another major revenue beat and evidence that demand remains strong heading into the Vera Rubin product ramp.
