Summary · why it matters

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas has launched the AI Nok Krasib loan project to help freelancers, small-scale entrepreneurs and SMEs gain easier access to formal credit, using actual sales data from their businesses in credit assessments. It follows the Thai Chuay Thai Plus 60/40 scheme that helped shore up purchasing power in the past. AI Nok Krasib has already been in service for three months on the Thung Ngern application, helping analyse sales, track income trends, plan business operations and compare performance with nearby shops or shops of the same type. Loan products under the project include Nok Krasib loans for Thung Ngern merchants from Krungthai Bank: the SME Size Lek loan with a maximum credit line of 3 million baht per borrower and interest starting at 3.5% per year, fixed for the first two years, and the Sip Muen loan with a maximum credit line of 500,000 baht per borrower and interest starting at 11% per year, with instalments starting at 500 baht per month. Neither programme charges a loan application fee. Meanwhile, the Government Savings Bank's Ao Sin QR Maha Heng x Nok Krasib loan approves a maximum credit line of 50,000 baht per borrower at a fixed interest rate of 0.75% per month, requires no collateral and charges no loan application fee. The Small Industry Credit Guarantee Corporation offers guarantees starting at 5,000 baht up to 100 million baht per borrower, depending on the type of programme, with guarantee fees starting at 1% per year according to risk level, and it waives guarantee processing fees and letter of guarantee issuance fees. In addition, the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the Islamic Bank of Thailand and the Small and Medium Enterprise Development Bank of Thailand are jointly developing loan products under the project to meet demand for working capital, liquidity and business expansion.
