The government is preparing data for US tariff negotiations in late August 2026, with Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supachai Suthamphan leading the talks using trade, investment, and supply chain information to push for the lowest possible tariffs or additional exemptions for the remaining 28 percent of Thai goods under Section 301 and Section 232 measures. Around 72 percent of Thai goods have already been granted tariff exemptions. The government noted that Thai private sector companies have accumulated nearly 20 billion US dollars in investment in the United States, with plans to invest more than 5 billion dollars more, reflecting shared economic interests rather than a condition for tariff privileges. It also stressed that military cooperation is not being linked to the negotiations, and that the final outcome depends on the US side's consideration.
