Ms. Yupapin Wangviwat, Chief Financial Officer of Gulf Development Public Company Limited, or GULF, disclosed that on September 10, 2026, Gulf Edge Company Limited, or GulfEdge, a subsidiary in which GULF holds an indirect 100% stake, and Singapore Telecommunications Limited, or Singtel, established a strategic partnership to develop the Vietnam–Thailand–Singapore submarine cable infrastructure, or VTS. The project is scheduled to begin commercial service in 2030 and will help strengthen international connectivity while supporting the growth of the digital economy in Southeast Asia. VTS was originally a project in which Singtel partnered with Viettel to connect Vietnam and Singapore, before GULF joined the investment and added Thailand to the route. Yuanta Securities views the investment in the VTS route as positive for Thailand's Data Center industry in the long term, because it adds options for data connectivity between Data Centers in Thailand and abroad, especially Singapore, which is a key Digital Hub for the region. It also views the move as long-term positive for GULF, as it makes its Digital Infrastructure business more complete, spanning Data Center, Cloud, and Connectivity through to Submarine Cable, in line with the company's upgrade toward AI Infrastructure. Meanwhile, the investment amount in the Submarine Cable is expected to be modest relative to GULF's overall investment plan, so it should not significantly affect its financial position or core investment plans. At the same time, continued cooperation with Singtel on Digital Infrastructure projects may help ease market concerns over the possibility that Singtel will gradually reduce its stake in GULF, which has been one of the pressures on the share price in the recent past. However, this issue is seen as a sentiment factor rather than a fundamental one. As for SYMC, it views the investment in VTS as not directly competing with MCT, which connects Malaysia-Cambodia-Thailand. The impact on SYMC's revenue in the short term is likely to be limited, but the entry of a major player like GULF reflects that Submarine Cable is becoming critical infrastructure for the growth of Cloud and Data Center, and may be the next growth opportunity for the Connectivity business, which is a positive picture for service providers like SYMC in the long term.
