Hamas presses Israel to fast-track phase-two ceasefire roadmap

Hamas has called on mediators and guarantor countries to pressure Israel to endorse the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire roadmap. After a meeting in Cairo between a Hamas delegation and representatives of the mediators and guarantors of the ceasefire agreement, Hamas said it had accepted the plan, with the goal of achieving a permanent ceasefire, the full withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, the continuous delivery of humanitarian aid, and allowing a national committee for the administration of Gaza to begin operating in the territory. The move came after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his rejection of a 15-point peace roadmap proposed by a peace committee led by the United States, while insisting that the Israeli military would not withdraw until Hamas agreed to completely disarm. The peace plan was drafted in May by Nikolay Mladenov, the peace committee's senior representative for Gaza, before US President Donald Trump officially announced it in late July.
