HP IncHP signs multi-year WiFi patent licensing deal with Huawei, gaining access to 2,000 patents and reciprocal rights

HP has signed a multi-year global agreement to license certain WiFi patents from Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, the companies announced Wednesday. The deal follows a patent dispute that resulted in an agreement allowing HP access to a pool of 2,000 patents related to wireless network connectivity, of which Huawei is a founding member. The latest cross-licensing agreement includes reciprocal patent rights from HP, according to Steven Geiszler, who represented Huawei in negotiations. This marks adoption of Huawei's technology outside China despite U.S. blacklisting in 2019. HP is scheduled to release earnings Thursday morning Beijing time.
