International Business MachinesIBM launches new z17 and LinuxONE systems with increased cores and memory, plus new software and security features.

IBM announced new single frame and rack mount configurations for its z17 and LinuxONE 5 systems, marking the first time rack mount options are available across the full Z and LinuxONE portfolio. The new systems support up to 82 cores and 18 TB of memory, representing about a 20% increase in core count and 12% increase in memory capacity compared to previous generations. The single frame and rack mount options are designed to help organizations optimize data center real estate amid record-low vacancy and rental rates exceeding $400 per kW per month, according to CBRE's 2026 Global Data Center Trend Report. IBM also introduced new software and management capabilities, including IBM Infrastructure Management for Z and LinuxONE, IBM COBOL Elevate for z/OS, and post-quantum cryptography security as standard. The new z17 and LinuxONE 5 configurations will be generally available on August 12, 2026.
