IBM announced the general availability of three new Z software tools designed to strengthen mainframe security and introduce agentic AI for database operations. The tools include IBM zSecure Detection for monitoring and responding to threats like ransomware on z/OS, IBM zSecure Secret Manager for automated certificate management powered by IBM Vault Self-Managed for Z, and IBM Z Database Assistant, which uses agentic AI to optimize database administrator performance and ensure data availability. These releases complement recent IBM initiatives such as Project Glasswing and the open-source security commitment Project Lightwell, and build on the IBM Z platform's reputation for resilience with average yearly downtime of less than a third of a second.
