IMF chief economist Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas said the global economy remains firmly dollar-centered despite shifting trade flows and rising gold prices. In a Reuters interview, he noted that even sharp increases in gold prices have been largely driven by gold exchange-traded funds and stablecoin issuers holding gold as an asset, rather than central bank buying. Gourinchas stated that there is very little movement indicating a shift away from a dollar-centered world, though he acknowledged that could change at some point.
