The International Monetary Fund has released the results of its policy consultations with Cambodia, revising down its real GDP growth forecast from 6.0% in 2024 to 5.3% in 2025 and 3.0% in 2026. The main factors are a prolonged real estate slump, high fuel prices, and a sluggish tourism sector affected by sophisticated fraud, with a recovery expected in 2027. Inflation is projected to rise from 2.5% in 2025 to 5.6% in 2026, while the current account remains supported by robust foreign direct investment and exports, with foreign reserves sufficient to cover eight months of imports. The IMF recommended maintaining medium-term fiscal discipline, providing targeted support to vulnerable households, and implementing structural reforms in preparation for graduation from least developed country status.
