Intel CorporationIntel targets $100B+ custom AI chip market, ASIC revenue nearly triples YoY

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the company is targeting a custom artificial intelligence silicon market worth potentially over $100 billion in total addressable market. During Intel's second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Tan highlighted the company's unique position as the only firm that can design and manufacture a full range of computing solutions, from general-purpose CPUs and GPUs to purpose-built ASICs optimized for agentic AI. Chief Financial Officer David Zinsner reported that the ASIC business is approaching a $2 billion run rate with revenue nearly tripling year-over-year, contributing to total second-quarter revenue of $16.13 billion, a 25% increase from the prior year. Intel raised its 2026 capital expenditure guidance to over $20 billion to secure tooling, memory, and substrates, as strong demand continues to outpace growing supply. INTC shares closed 2.33% lower at $100.23 per share on Thursday and were up 3.47% in overnight trading.
