Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) raised $23 billion in equity at $95 per share, up from an initial target of $15 billion, and CEO Lip-Bu Tan personally bought $12 million worth of stock as part of the offering. CFO David Zinsner, speaking at the Deutsche Bank Technology Conference on Aug. 26, indicated the funds will likely go toward new fabs, including converting Oregon pilot lines to high-volume manufacturing for the 14A node and accelerating the Ohio fab build-out. Mods one and two in Ohio will cost a reported $28 billion, roughly the same amount invested in Fabs 52 and 62 in Arizona. While Intel hasn't officially announced external customer commitments for 14A, Zinsner admitted, "We are now at a point where we have conviction around customers on 14A externally." There is a possibility Intel will use $15 billion of the offering to buy out Brookfield Infrastructure Partners, which owns 49% of Intel's existing Arizona fabs, but Zinsner hinted the new funds will probably go toward new capacity.
