Iran Says It Will Not Negotiate With the US Until Its Conditions Are Met

Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, declared that Iran will not open negotiations with the United States unless its conditions are met, stating on X that "there will be no negotiations whatsoever until Iran's conditions are met!" The remark was a response to US President Donald Trump, who said on Truth Social on Monday, September 14, that Iran wants to reach a deal "desperately" and that the United States might return to the negotiating table. Rezaei also warned against being misled by the US leader's flip-flopping signals, shifting from "no negotiations" to "we are ready to talk," because the stakes over oil and the strategic strait have now changed. On June 18, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding to end the war in the region on all fronts, including in Lebanon, setting a 60-day timeframe for the two sides to hold negotiations, which expired on August 17, to reach a final agreement. It remains unclear, however, whether the talks can move forward after the recent series of escalating tensions between the two countries.
