Microsoft CorporationItaly's antitrust probe over alleged unfair practices in price hike and AI integration

Italy's antitrust authority has opened an investigation into Microsoft Ireland Operations Ltd. and Microsoft over alleged unfair commercial practices related to a price increase for its Microsoft 365 subscription service. The regulator said the Windows maker failed to adequately inform consumers about the price increase without making it sufficiently clear that the Microsoft 365 subscription had been integrated with the AI services Copilot and Designer. Moreover, it seems that consumers were placed, by default, on a new subscription plan at a higher price, unless they exercised their right of withdrawal. The watchdog said Microsoft may have breached consumer protection rules by failing to provide enough information for customers to properly assess the changes to the service and make an informed decision on whether to renew their subscriptions. Microsoft did not immediately reply to Seeking Alpha's request for comment.
