J.P. Morgan downgraded Norsk Hydro to Neutral from Overweight and cut its price target to 97 Norwegian kroner from 116 kroner, citing risks to fourth-quarter EBITDA from disrupted natural gas supply and cost uncertainty at the company's Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil. The aluminum producer's shares fell 3.4% in Friday's trading. Norsk Hydro said in August that disruptions to gas supply at Alunorte led to a temporary curtailment, prompting management to buy natural gas volumes at spot prices as a contingency measure. JPM analyst Patrick Jones said that while the hit to third-quarter earnings is material on its own, he remains concerned about the potential impact if the company needs to secure additional spot liquefied natural gas volumes into the fourth quarter. Norsk Hydro guided that the disruption and the need to source gas at spot market terms would result in 100K-120K metric tons of lost production and a negative $75M-$100M EBITDA impact for the third quarter alone.
