Mitsubishi Electric co-developed a new plasma measurement system for fusion energy, a technological advancement.
Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Kyoto University's Institute of Advanced Energy, and the National Institute for Fusion Science have developed an advanced microwave plasma measurement system for fusion energy. The system can simultaneously measure plasma conditions at multiple points over extended periods and was successfully demonstrated using the Heliotron J fusion experimental device at Kyoto University. The collaborators aim to promote plasma diagnostics technologies necessary for practical fusion energy implementation, which the Japanese government supports with a target of power generation demonstrations by the 2030s.
