Japanese Economy Minister Ryosei Akazawa met with US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer in Washington on the 4th, reaffirming the implementation of the special measure that exempts Japan from additional tariffs beyond the level agreed upon in last year's Japan-US agreement. The US administration is preparing to impose new tariffs under Section 301 of the Trade Act, citing overproduction, but Japan was granted a special exemption under last year's agreement, capping reciprocal tariffs at 15% combined with existing rates. Akazawa emphasized at a press conference after the meeting that "last year's agreement remains unchanged, and both countries will continue to work on its implementation."
