NVIDIA CorporationOpen-weight AI models expand Nvidia's total addressable market, increasing demand for its chips.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is championing open-weight AI models as a strategy to broaden the company's total addressable market. Open models allow millions of companies, start-ups, researchers, and countries to build and run their own AI, and every deployment requires computing power that largely runs on Nvidia chips. Huang noted that roughly one in four AI tokens generated today already comes from an open model, and he wants that share to keep climbing. Nvidia also releases its own open models, such as the Nemotron family, free to the public along with training recipes and code, seeding demand for its silicon. The approach democratizes AI demand across the entire economy, though it also risks enabling rivals and potentially softening demand if hyper-efficient models accomplish more with less computing power.
