JPMorgan Chase & CoExpanding crypto team in consumer banking signals strategic push into digital assets, potentially opening new revenue streams.

It has come to light by August 30 that JPMorgan Chase, a major U.S. financial institution, is expanding its specialized team handling crypto assets and blockchain within its consumer and small business banking division, Chase. The bank has primarily offered blockchain-related services to corporations and institutional investors, but this move indicates that it is advancing preparations to utilize digital assets in consumer finance as well. According to job postings, the newly established specialized team is responsible for formulating digital asset strategies, partnering with crypto companies, and developing and executing new products, considering both in-house development and partnerships or acquisitions with external firms. Team member Samir Kumar also revealed on LinkedIn that he has joined the new division, and that the team is being expanded with an eye toward offering services to consumers and small businesses. In its 2026 company update published on February 23, the bank explained that blockchain and stablecoins could potentially be used in consumer finance in the future, but also expressed the view that practical application is "not in the near future." For corporate clients, it operates the blockchain business "Kinexys" and tokenized deposits "JPM Coin," and through this team expansion, it is expected to intensify its examination of applying these technologies to consumer and small business finance.
