JPMorgan Chase & CoJPMorgan expands blockchain deposit account to 8 currencies, signaling leadership in on-chain finance.
JPMorgan announced on June 29 that it has expanded the supported currencies for its blockchain deposit account, BDA, adding Japanese yen, Australian dollar, Hong Kong dollar, Chinese yuan, and Singapore dollar to the existing US dollar, bringing the total to eight currencies. BDA is legally and accounting-wise identical to traditional bank deposits, but by moving the deposit mechanism onto a blockchain, it enables near 24/7/365 fund transfers and programmable payments. This move signals the realization of on-chain finance. On July 9, SWIFT announced a tokenized deposit international settlement trial with 17 global banks including MUFG Bank, indicating that banks and payment networks have entered a phase of competing to set the standards for next-generation financial infrastructure.
