American Express CompanyKarta fills the gap left by AmEx scaling back its International Dollar Card program, directly competing for non-U.S. residents seeking U.S. credit cards.

Miami-based startup Karta has raised a $15 million Series A round led by Galaxy Ventures, with participation from Illuminate, Canary, and Clocktower Ventures, and secured a $125 million debt facility from CIM. The company offers a premium Visa credit card issued from the U.S. to non-U.S. residents who hold assets in American banks or brokerages, with credit lines up to $200,000 and no Social Security or ITIN required. Clients apply through partner institutions, receive instant approval, and manage the card primarily via a 24/7 WhatsApp chat, enjoying perks such as no foreign exchange fees and reward points. Karta was founded to fill the gap left by American Express scaling back its International Dollar Card program, and it now works with roughly 85 private banks and wealth managers including Itaú, Raymond James, and XP International US.
