Kohl's CorporationKohl's expands Babies"R"Us shops to 56 more stores to win back customers amid a 0.9% comparable sales decline and 6.5% operating income drop.
Kohl's is expanding its Babies"R"Us partnership to an additional 56 existing stores this month, part of an effort to win back customers as comparable sales fell 0.9% year over year in the second quarter and operating income dropped 6.5%. The new shops include 25 Kohl's locations in California, 20 in Texas, two in New York, two in Illinois, and one each in Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nebraska, New Jersey, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, and will carry strollers, car seats, feeding supplies, toys, and nursery decor along with new brands such as Hallmark gift sets and Millie Moon diapers. Kohl's also said it is rolling out a Babies"R"Us gifting assortment in all of its stores this fall, with more baby gift options under $25. The push comes as off-price retailers gain ground: Placer.ai data showed traditional apparel retailers saw a 3.5% year-over-year decline in customer visits in the second quarter of 2026, while visits to Ross Dress for Less rose 16.4% and dd's Discounts climbed 8.4%. GlobalData Retail analyst Neil Saunders said Kohl's comparable sales have now declined for eighteen consecutive quarters, adding that the streak does not convince him the business is in full recovery.
