The Liberal Democratic Party's Comprehensive Fisheries Research Council and Fisheries Division have adopted a resolution after Japan's push for a larger catch quota at an international conference on Pacific bluefin tuna resource management failed to reach an agreement due to opposition from Mexico. Research Council Chairman Arata Takebe requested Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister Kenwa Suzuki to continue negotiations in cooperation with the Fisheries Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until an agreement is reached. Minister Suzuki responded that he would work with a sense of urgency to break the deadlock early, and indicated plans to consider dispatching vice ministers to Mexico to gather information and advance analysis.
